“Dolphin Academy Curacao – which experience should you choose?“
When we first visited Curacao in 2018, we were lucky enough to visit Dolphin Academy. We absolutely loved the staff and the way they educated us about these beautiful animals. We just knew that it would be the perfect day trip for kids. When we were planning our Curacao trip we knew that Dolphin Academy would be our number 1 stop. Here’s why your trip to Curacao isn’t complete without a trip to Dolphin Academy.
Our dolphin encounter
We were welcomed by Dolphin Academy staff and had a moment to walk around the academy. When it was time, we got to meet the trainer and had a briefing about what we were about to do and which dolphins would join us today. After the briefing we quickly changed into our swimwear and it was finally time. We were so curious how our kids would react to seeing these magical creatures up close.
The dolphin we got to meet was Romeo, one of the males of the Academy. We learned all about the anatomy and behavior of Romeo and his fellow dolphin friends, and of course there was plenty of time to see some tricks and play some games as well. We learned how to make Romeo wave and sing. The last one was our daughters favorite. He also splashed us with some water showing us his strength. This made our daughter laugh hysterically, her little brother didn’t like this so much. We could also pet Romeo and he even gave us a handshake and a kiss! Our daughter has the picture of her and the dolphin kissing her on her nightstand and she keeps telling everyone about her dolphin friend. We just know that even at 4 years old, she will never forget about this moment.
It was an absolutely fantastic experience and we were so happy we were able to let our kids learn and meet these wonderful animals at such a young age.
Who let the Dolphins out?
The most amazing thing about Dolphin Academy to us is that they let their dolphins go out to open sea every single day. Just like walking your dog, the trainers take a boat and let the dolphins play and swim around as much as they want before returning back to the academy. It was so much fun seeing the dolphins swim off and do their things before returning to the boat.
A great day activity for kids all ages
Besides swimming with dolphins and seeing the dolphin show, there is more to see! You can visit the Curacao sea aquarium with all sorts of marine life. In the middle of the aquarium there is a big area with flamingoes and if you’re lucky you can see them being fed. You can also go down the submarine outside of the aquarium and watch different sharks go by. Our kids loved sitting in the submarine and being surprised when a big shark swam by.
